Summary
The Waveshare Sound Sensor is built around the LM386 audio amplifier. It provides analog and digital outputs, supports connection to Raspberry Pi Pico, STM32, and Arduino UNO, and covers a frequency range of 50 Hz to 20 kHz.

Technical overview
- Board size: 39.0 mm × 21.0 mm; mounting hole diameter 2.0 mm.
- Operating voltage: 3.3 V to 5.5 V (pin description states 3.3 V to 5.3 V).
- Outputs: AOUT carries the analog audio signal; DOUT provides the digital threshold output (logic 0/1).
- The LM386 has a built-in gain of 20; adding an external resistor and capacitor between pin 1 and pin 8 allows gain adjustment up to 200×.
- Two potentiometers: the A pot adjusts the amplification level, while the D pot sets the threshold for the digital output.
- Pico wiring: VCC→3.3 V, GND→GND, AOUT→GP26, DOUT→GP22.
- STM32 wiring (F103RB example): VCC→3.3 V, GND→GND, AOUT→PA6, DOUT→PA4.
- Arduino UNO wiring: VCC→5 V, GND→GND, AOUT→A0, DOUT→D2.

cd Pico/c/build/
cd ~/Sound-Sensor-code/Pico/c/
cmake ..
make -j9
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
Notes and version constraints
- The source gives conflicting operating-voltage ranges: specification says 3.3–5.5 V, pin description says 3.3–5.3 V. Confirm which limit applies before powering the board.
- Provided sample firmware files (e.g., rp2-pico-20210418-v1.15.uf2) are version-specific; other Pico firmware versions may require recompiling or adaptation.
- The STM32 examples use the HAL library and a Keil project for the F103RB; other STM32 boards need custom porting.
- The Arduino examples target the UNO; compatibility with other Arduino models must be verified separately.
- The module does not measure decibel levels; ADC values from the microcontroller do not directly represent sound intensity.
