Summary
The Waveshare SIM8200EA-M2 is a baseboard with an M.2 connector that hosts a SIMCom 5G module (e.g., SIM8202G-M2 on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 platform) and plugs directly into the Jetson Nano via a 40-pin GPIO header. It provides a USB3.1 port, audio jack, SIM card slot, and two status LEDs to enable 5G/4G/3G data communication, telephony, SMS, cloud connectivity, and GNSS positioning.

Technical overview
- Hosts a SIMCom 5G module in an M.2 package; the SIM8200EA-M2 has 6 antenna connectors (IPEX-4), while the SIM8202G-M2 has 4.
- Supports 5G Sub-6G SA/NSA, LTE-FDD/TDD, WCDMA, and multi-mode/multi-band; band n79 is only available on the SIM8202G-M2.
- Peak data rates: up to 4 Gbps downlink / 500 Mbps uplink for 5G Sub-6G; 2 Gbps/200 Mbps for LTE; 42/5.76 Mbps for HSPA.
- GNSS supports GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, and QZSS (multi-constellation dual-band positioning).
- Connects to the Jetson Nano via the 40-pin GPIO header; a recent Jetson Nano SD-card image with a kernel newer than 4.9.140-tegra is recommended.
- For other Linux systems, download the driver from the SIM8200_OS_Driver/linux folder and port it according to the provided documentation.
- Software installation on Jetson Nano uses a 7z archive (Sim8200_for_jetsonnano.7z) installed via install.sh; specific files must remain unmodified.
- AT commands are tested via minicom on port /dev/ttyUSB2; 5G network connection is performed using the simcom-cm script in the Goonline directory.
- GPS test: connect a passive GPS antenna to ANT5, send AT+CGPS=1, and receive NMEA data through the NMEA port.

Notes and version constraints
- Actual speeds depend heavily on base-station distance, load, coverage, and carrier limits; lab peak values are not guaranteed in real-world use.
- On other Linux systems, the driver must be manually ported; compatibility is not automatic.
- Modifying or deleting the option, qmi_wwan_simcom, default.script, and install.sh files will prevent correct installation.
- If installation fails, fall back to kernel version 4.9.140-tegra.
- Compatible M.2 modules must have both an M.2 B-Key connector and USB functionality; PCIe-only modules are not supported.
- When connecting multiple 5G modules to a Raspberry Pi, they appear as wwan0 and wwan1; selecting the correct interface requires manual verification.
