Summary
The Pico-LCD-1.44 is a 1.44-inch TFT display module with 128×128 pixels and 65K colors (RGB565) that communicates with the Raspberry Pi Pico via a 4-wire SPI interface. It connects through GPIOs GP8–GP17 and can be driven using C, MicroPython, or Arduino demos.

Technical overview
- Resolution: 128 × 128 pixels; color format RGB565 (16 bits/pixel).
- Controller: ST7735S; display area starts at the second pixel horizontally and first pixel vertically.
- Operating voltage: 3.3 V; communication: 4-wire SPI (SDA, SCL, CSX, DCX, RESX).
- Pico pin mapping: DIN→GP11 (MOSI), CLK→GP10 (SCK), CS→GP9, DC→GP8, RST→GP12, BL→GP13, KEY0→GP15, KEY1→GP17, KEY2→GP2, KEY3→GP3.
- C demo: enable LCD_1in44_test() in main.c, then compile in c/build using cmake (cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2040 .. for Pico, or pico2/rp2350 for Pico 2) and run make -j.
- MicroPython: use Thonny IDE; flash firmware rp2-pico-20210418-v1.15.uf2 (Pico) or rp2-pcio2-20240809-v1.24.0.uf2 (Pico 2) onto the Pico and run the Pico-LCD-1.44.py script.
- Arduino: install “pico” via Board Manager, open demo D1-LED.ino, and upload via Tools > Port and Tools > Development Board.
- The GUI API encapsulates the hardware layer; DEV_Config.c/.h defines data types (UBYTE, UWORD, UDOUBLE) plus init/exit functions DEV_Module_Init/DEV_Module_Exit.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/wiki/common/Pico_code.7z
7z x Pico_code.7z -o./Pico_code
cd ~/Pico_code/c/build/
export PICO_SDK_PATH=../../pico-sdk
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2040 ..
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico2 -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2350 ..
make -j
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RP2350
Notes and version constraints
- Pinout accuracy depends on the actual hardware revision; verify orientation using the USB silkscreen before soldering.
- The cmake commands assume a locally available Pico SDK path; if missing, download it first.
- Thonny must include Pico support; older versions need updating (sudo apt upgrade thonny).
- On first-time Arduino upload, copy the .uf2 file via mass storage first; only then does a COM port appear.
- Firmware versions cited in the source (v1.15 and v1.24.0) may be outdated; verify current firmware status before flashing.
