Summary

The Pioneer600 is an all-in-one expansion board for the Raspberry Pi series and Jetson Nano. It integrates a standard 40-pin GPIO header, basic I/O components, USB-to-UART, an OLED display, RTC, ADC/DAC, GPIO expansion, IR remote control, and sensors via onboard interfaces.

Technical overview

  • Standard Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO expansion header; compatible with the Raspberry Pi series and Jetson Nano.
  • Onboard components include two LEDs, joystick, buzzer, CP2102 USB-to-UART chip, 0.96-inch OLED, DS3231 RTC with battery holder, PCF8591 (8-bit ADC/DAC), PCF8574 GPIO expander, LFN0038K IR receiver, BMP280 pressure sensor, and a 1-WIRE connection with DS18B20.
  • Onboard interfaces listed: AD, DA, ONE-WIRE, RPi, USB TO UART.
  • Driver libraries provided: BCM2835, WiringPi, lgpio, plus Python demo code.
  • SPI, I2C, and UART are enabled via "sudo raspi-config" under Interfacing Options, followed by "sudo reboot".
  • Demo code is downloaded from a Waveshare file server, extracted, and made executable with chmod 777.
  • Available demos cover LED, key, PCF8574, PCF8591 (ADC/DAC), BMP280, DS3231, OLED, and various sensor demos (temperature, humidity, gas, UV, etc.).
  • Certifications listed in source: CE and RoHS.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo reboot
sudo wget http://www.airspayce.com/mikem/bcm2835/bcm2835-1.71.tar.gz
sudo tar zxvf bcm2835-1.71.tar.gz
cd bcm2835-1.71/
sudo ./configure && sudo make && sudo make check && sudo make install
sudo apt-get install wiringpi
wget https://files.waveshare.com/wiki/common/wiringpi-latest.deb
sudo dpkg -i wiringpi-latest.deb
gpio -v
sudo git clone https://github.com/WiringPi/WiringPi
cd WiringPi
sudo ./build
sudo su
wget https://github.com/joan2937/lg/archive/master.zip
unzip master.zip
cd lg-master
sudo make install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python3-smbus

Notes and version constraints

  • No battery included: For shipping reasons, the board ships without a CR1220 button cell; one must be installed manually for RTC operation.
  • When using the Bullseye branch, replace "apt-get" with "apt"; this branch only supports Python 3.
  • Under Bookworm, only the lgpio library is available; BCM2835 and WiringPi cannot be installed or used there.
  • WiringPi version depends on installation path: older systems report gpio -v = 2.52, newer ones (post-May 2019) or Bullseye report 2.70. If the expected version does not appear, it indicates an installation error.
  • Several demos require that the relevant interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART) were enabled beforehand and the machine was rebooted.
  • Jetson Nano compatibility is mentioned but no specific wiring or command details are provided; verify before use.
