Technical overview

  • Sensor chip: Sony IMX219, resolution 3280 × 2464 (~8 MP)
  • CMOS size: 1/4 inch
  • Aperture: F2.35; focal length: 3.15 mm
  • Diagonal field of view: 160°; distortion < 14.3%
  • Lens size: 6.5 mm × 6.5 mm; housing approx. 25 mm × 24 mm with four screw holes
  • Interface: CSI; external 3.3 V power supply supported
  • Compatible with Jetson Nano and Raspberry Pi Compute Module (e.g., CM IO Board, CM IO Board Plus, POE Board, StereoPi)
  • Infrared mode: IR-CUT filter can be toggled via a GPIO on the 40-pin header
  • Jetson Nano test command: DISPLAY=:0.0 nvgstcapture-1.0
  • Dual-camera test: use --sensor-id=0 or --sensor-id=1 for each camera
  • On Jetson: reddish image cast can be corrected by copying an adjusted ISP settings file
  • Raspberry Pi from Bullseye uses libcamera instead of raspicam; commands such as libcamera-hello, -jpeg, -still, -vid, -raw are available

Commands and examples – verify before use:

DISPLAY=:0.0 nvgstcapture-1.0
DISPLAY=:0.0 nvgstcapture-1.0 --sensor-id=0
DISPLAY=:0.0 nvgstcapture-1.0 --sensor-id=1
libcamera-hello
libcamera-hello -t 0
libcamera-hello --tuning-file /usr/share/libcamera/ipa/raspberrypi/imx219_noir.json
libcamera-hello --info-text "focus %focus"
libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg
libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg -t 2000 --width 640 --height 480
libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg -t 2000 --shutter 20000 --gain 1.5
libcamera-jpeg --ev -0.5 -o darker.jpg
libcamera-still -o test.jpg
libcamera-still -e png -o test.png
libcamera-still -e bmp -o test.bmp
libcamera-still -e rgb -o test.data
libcamera-still -e yuv420 -o test.data

Notes and version constraints

  • Confirm the exact OS/driver version before testing (Jetson Nano and Raspberry Pi use different commands).
  • Copying the ISP settings file requires root privileges and an HDMI/DP monitor must be connected for display.
  • Toggling the IR-CUT via GPIO requires hardware connections not included in the package – verify beforehand.
  • For dual-camera setups, sensor IDs must be correctly mapped; incorrect mapping yields blank or wrong images.
  • Exact parameter ranges (e.g., gain, shutter) are version-sensitive; verify against current documentation.
