Technical overview
- Resolution 128×64 pixels; display size 14.7 mm × 29.42 mm; blue monochrome.
- Operating voltage 3.3 V/5 V; driver chip SH1106.
- Three interfaces available: 3-wire SPI, 4-wire SPI, and I2C, switchable via two resistors (BS0/BS1) on the module's back side.
- Default configuration is 4-wire SPI (BS0=0, BS1=0).
- For I2C operation: connect BS0 to GND and BS1 to VCC (3.3 V); DIN to SDA, CLK to SCL; tying DC to GND gives 7-bit I2C address 0x3C.
- Raspberry Pi pin mapping: VCC→3.3 V, GND→GND, DIN→MOSI/SDA, CLK→SCLK/SCL, CS→CE0, D/C→GPIO.6, RES→GPIO.2.
- Enable SPI and I2C via raspi-config under Interfacing Options; a reboot is required afterwards.
- C test demo: run in the c directory, then execute sudo make -j 8 and sudo ./main 1.3 for this module.
- Python demo: cd python/example, then run sudo python3 OLED_1in3_test.py.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo raspi-config
sudo reboot
sudo make clean && sudo make -j 8
sudo ./main 1.3
cd python/example && sudo python3 OLED_1in3_test.py
Notes and version constraints
- The exact pinout and resistor configuration (BS0/BS1) depend on the chosen communication method – verify before soldering.
- The program defaults to SPI mode; switching to I2C requires modifying DEV_Config.h.
- When using STM32, the I2C demo uses analog I2C pins – the connection must be adjusted accordingly.
- Do not display the same image for extended periods, as it can cause afterimages and damage the OLED.
- Take care not to reverse-connect the power supply.
- Lifespan and current-draw figures come from the FAQ and apply under normal conditions; other environments require human confirmation.
