Technical overview
- Sensor element: ST188 infrared reflective transceiver.
- Supply voltage: 3.0 V to 5.3 V; the VCC pin is specified as 3.3 V to 5.3 V in the pinout table.
- The AOUT pin provides an analog signal proportional to reflected light; DOUT provides the comparator’s digital output.
- Onboard LM393 wide-voltage comparator sets the threshold between the two outputs.
- A potentiometer on the board adjusts the effective detection distance; the FAQ states it is about 5 cm.
- Board size is 25 mm × 15.9 mm with 2.0 mm mounting holes.
- Example connections: Pico GP26/GP22, STM32F103RB PA6/PA4, Arduino UNO A0/D2.
- Demo code archives are provided for Raspberry Pi Pico (C/MicroPython), STM32 (HAL) and Arduino UNO.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
cd ~
sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/upload/0/05/Infrared_Proximity_Sensor_Demo.7z
7z x Infrared_Proximity_Sensor_Demo.7z -o./Infrared_Proximity_Sensor_Demo
cd ~/Infrared_Proximity_Sensor_Demo/Pico/c/
cd build
export PICO_SDK_PATH=../../pico-sdk
cmake ..
make -j9
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
Notes and version constraints
- The shown example files are named “Infrared_Proximity_Sensor” – verify whether they actually match the reflective sensor or are only references.
- The demo archive is downloaded via wget; without network access it cannot be fetched.
- Flashing the Pico firmware requires a USB connection to a PC or Pi; exact steps depend on the firmware version used.
- STM32 examples target the STM32F103RBT6 and STM32H743; other boards need custom adaptation.
- Arduino examples are for the UNO; compatibility with other Arduino boards must be checked individually.
- The stated supply voltage varies slightly between sections (3.0–5.3 V vs. 3.3–5.3 V); confirm the exact specification of your specific module before wiring.
