Summary

The Waveshare CH343 USB UART module converts USB to a serial (TTL) port. It uses the newer CH343G chip, supports data rates from 50 bps up to 6 Mbps and offers selectable TTL levels (5 V / 3.3 V; optionally external 2.5 V / 1.8 V). The module has a 6-pin right-angle pin header on the UART side and connects via mini-, micro-, Type-A or Type-C USB depending on the product variant.

Technical overview

  • Chip: new version CH343G vs. CH340G; higher data rate up to 6 Mbps and more selectable serial-port IO levels (5 V / 3.3 V / 2.5 V / 1.8 V).
  • Interfaces: host side USB (mini/micro/Type-A/Type-C depending on variant), device side UART via 6-pin right-angle pin header.
  • Powering: module is powered over USB; onboard jumper selects 5 V or 3.3 V output for external devices.
  • Protection circuits: resettable fuse, transient voltage suppressor, IO protection diode against overvoltage, surge and static discharge.
  • Operating systems: Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11, macOS, Linux/Raspberry Pi, Android – driver requirements differ per OS.
  • UART pin mapping: TXD→MCU.RXD, RXD→MCU.TXD, RTS#→MCU.CTS, CTS#→MCU.RTS plus MODEM contacts RI#, DCD#, DTR#, DSR# (active-low signals).
  • Default is software flow control; for hardware flow control connect CFG to EN (CDC mode) or configure in SSCOM (VCP mode).
  • Manufacturing process: double-sided black immersion gold plating for durability and appearance.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

ls /dev/tty*
sudo apt-get install minicom -y
minicom -D /dev/ttyACM0

Notes and version constraints

  • Windows driver installation may trigger a digital signature warning; the source mentions a Microsoft bug-fix tool whose availability is not independently confirmed.
  • Using 2.5 V or 1.8 V requires external voltage input instead of the jumper; exact connection method is only generally described in the source.
  • The source contains placeholders such as {{{name2}}} through {{{name6}}}, {{{userDefinedInfo}}} and {{{5}}} – these are incomplete and need manual completion.
  • The phrase 'High Baud Rate Transmission' is marketing language; the actual 6 Mbps rate is specification-based.
  • Knock-off warning: the source warns about inferior copies in the market; authenticity verification should be done for non-official stores.
