Summary
The isolated multi-bus converter (item WSAL21411) converts USB signals to RS232, RS485 and TTL. It includes built-in power-supply and signal isolation plus TVS, over-voltage and over-current protection, and is aimed at industrial control applications with high communication requirements.

Technical overview
- Uses the FT232RL chip for USB communication; data rates of 300–921600 baud, or 300–600000 baud for RS232-to-RS232.
- Group A: USB port via USB-B, 5 V operating voltage, 200 mA resettable fuse; RS232 via DB9 male with TVS, surge and ESD protection; TTL via screw terminals (TXD, RXD, GND, 5 V) with clamping diodes.
- Group B: RS485 via screw terminals (A+, B-, GND) with automatic hardware direction control, point-to-multipoint mode supporting up to 32 nodes (repeaters recommended from 16 nodes); RS232 via DB9 male; TTL with selectable 3.3 V/5 V level via screw terminals (TXD, RXD, GND).
- Integrated monolithic power-supply and digital isolation; no separate power supply needed at the isolated terminal.
- TVS diodes suppress surge and transient spike voltages; a resettable fuse and protection diodes keep output current/voltage stable.
- Aluminium-alloy enclosure with a matte oxidized finish, described as solid and durable.
- Operating environment: -25 °C to 85 °C, humidity 5% RH to 95% RH.
- Supported operating systems per source: Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7/XP; per FAQ also Mac, Linux, Android and WinCE.
- Only one pair of devices can communicate between Group A and Group B at the same time; same-group communication (A-to-A or B-to-B) is not supported.
- A pad for a 120 Ω termination resistor is reserved on the RS485 port; add it to the beginning/terminal device when connecting multiple devices.
Notes and version constraints
- Driver files (FT232 32/64-bit) must be downloaded and installed manually if the system does not auto-detect the driver (yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager).
- If short-range RS485 communication is abnormal, remove the 120 Ω termination resistor.
- The TTL level selection (3.3 V or 5 V) on Group B must be set by the user.
- For more than 16 RS485 nodes, the source recommends using repeaters; exact sizing depends on cable length and load profile.
- Non-Windows compatibility relies on the linked FTDI driver page; specific installation steps per OS are not detailed here.
