== Summary ==
Technical overview: The PCIe-TO-SATA-4P is a PCIe-to-SATA expansion card providing four SATA 3.0 ports at up to 6 Gbps per channel over a single-lane PCIe Gen3 x1 link. It is designed for compute modules such as the Compute Module 4 and can be used for local data storage or simple NAS configurations.

== Technical overview ==
* Supports a single-lane PCIe connection (Gen3 x1); maximum speed of one channel is 6 Gbps.
* Provides four SATA 3.0 ports (6 Gbps each) for hard drives; supports 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs but not M.2 interfaces.
* Offers four power-saving modes L0s/L1/L23/L3 and the deep power-saving L1 sub-state mode.
* Supports SRIS, AER, LTR, NCQ and AHCI SPEC 1.4.
* Includes a SATA LED to indicate connection status; when powered on, five LEDs are lit (four status LEDs and one power indicator).
* Supports port multiplier command-based switching and SATA Partial/Dormancy power management.
* Requires 12 V power; can alternatively be powered from 5 V if the main board operates correctly at that voltage.
* Does not require a driver with the latest Raspberry Pi OS; older OS versions or other systems may need a driver.

'''Commands and examples – verify before use:'''
<syntaxhighlight lang="text">
lsblk
sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo sh -c "sync && echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches"
dd if=/dev/zero of=./test_write count=2000 bs=1024k
dd if=./test_write of=/dev/null count=2000 bs=1024k
</syntaxhighlight>

== Notes and version constraints ==
* The commands were only tested on the latest Raspberry Pi OS; behavior may differ on other operating systems.
* Raspberry Pi CM4 uses PCIe Gen 2 with a limited speed of 5 Gbps, so the effective transfer rate stays below the theoretical 6 Gbps maximum.
* When powering via 5 V, it must be verified that the main board operates normally; otherwise performance may be affected.
* For older Raspberry Pi OS versions, run 'sudo apt upgrade -y' before use.
* Port-multiplier switching and power-saving features are version-sensitive and may require human confirmation depending on firmware/driver state.
