== Technical overview ==
* The camera connects via the CSI port. On Raspberry Pi 5, align the metal side of the cable towards the LAN port; two CSI ports are available.
* Supported sensor chips include OV5647, OV9281, IMX219, IMX290/IMX327, IMX378, IMX477, IMX519, IMX708 and IMX296.
* For non-official cameras, set camera_auto_detect=0 in config.txt.
* To enable a specific sensor, add a dtoverlay line, e.g., dtoverlay=ov5647.
* Two cameras can be connected simultaneously by specifying cam0 and cam1 after the dtoverlay entries.
* The preview can be started with rpicam-hello and stopped using Ctrl+C.
* rpicam-jpeg is used to capture JPEG images; parameters like --shutter and --gain allow exposure control.
* The IR LED has an operating voltage of 3.3V.

'''Commands and examples – verify before use:'''
<syntaxhighlight lang="text">
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=ov5647
rpicam-hello
rpicam-jpeg -o test.jpg -t 2000 --width 640 --height 480
rpicam-jpeg -o test.jpg -t 2000 --shutter 20000 --gain 1.5
</syntaxhighlight>

== Notes and version constraints ==
* DSI connectors (display) and CSI connectors (camera) look identical; pay close attention when connecting.
* Older systems (Bullseye) require libcamera commands, while newer systems (Bookworm) use rpicam commands.
* Switching between Normal and Night-vision modes requires adding disable_camera_led=1 to config.txt or making a GPIO connection.
* For certain sensors like IMX290 on Raspberry Pi 5, an additional JSON file must be placed in the libcamera directory.
