== Summary ==
The CM4-IO-WIRELESS-BASE is an industrial IoT wireless expansion module for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. It provides Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, USB, GPIO, plus RS485, CAN and RTC. An M.2 B Key / Mini-PCIe port allows connecting 4G/5G/LoRaWAN modules.
== Technical overview ==
* Supports all variants of Compute Module 4 via the CM4 socket.
* Two non-isolated RS485 ports with 600 W lightning protection, surge protection and 15 kV ESD protection; optional 120 Ω balance-resistor jumpers.
* One non-isolated CAN port with static protection; configured via the mcp2515-can0 SPI overlay.
* M.2 B Key extends PCIe, USB2.0, GPIO, I2C and SPI interfaces; compatible with SIM7600X-H, SIM8202X-M2, SIM8200X-M2, SX1302-868M-LoRaWAN-Gateway.
* Nano-SIM card slot for 5G/4G/3G/2G modules; a SIM card is required for wireless operation.
* HDMI output supports 4K@30 fps; three USB 2.0 ports; two RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
* Power supply via 5 V or 7–36 V DC; recommended PSU: at least 5 V/2.5 A.
* FAN header defaults to 12 V; switching to 5 V requires changing the FAN_VCC resistor.
* RTC with battery holder (CR1220) and wake-up capability for the CM4; I2C bus selectable between I2C-10/CSI-DSI and GPIO3/2/I2C-1.
* Dimensions: 145 × 90 × 40 mm; operating temperature range approximately -20 to +85 °C.

== Notes and version constraints ==
* Do not hot-plug any devices except USB and HDMI.
* Do not power the board simultaneously via 12 V DC and 5 V Type-C.
* Do not connect other devices while writing the CM4 image over Type-C.
* USB 2.0 is disabled by default; enabling it requires adding dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host to config.txt.
* RS485 and CAN are disabled by default and must be enabled in config.txt.
* The 4G/5G module is controlled via GPIO6; turning it on/off takes about 30 seconds if antenna or SIM is not connected.
* The Mini-PCIe adapter only matches the physical connector but does not wire real PCIe pins – PCIe devices are not supported.
* AT commands may be version-sensitive; adjust frequency with AT+CNBP if network connection fails.
* Operating temperature range refers to the CM4 itself; verify manufacturer extremes before field deployment.
