== Summary ==
The Waveshare Raspberry Pi Pico Sensor Kit bundles 13 sensor modules (temperature, humidity, gas, color, flame, etc.) for the RP2040-based Pico board. The guide covers flashing MicroPython firmware, setting up Thonny on Windows or Raspberry Pi, an LED control example, and pin connections for various sensor modules.

== Technical overview ==
* The Pico board uses an RP2040 chip with dual Cortex-M0+ cores, up to 133 MHz clock, 264 KB SRAM, and 2 MB flash memory.
* It provides 26 multi-function GPIO pins, plus 2× SPI, 2× I²C, 2× UART, three 12-bit ADCs, and 16 PWM channels.
* The chip also includes eight programmable I/O (PIO) state machines, an onboard temperature sensor, and accelerated floating-point libraries.
* For development, either Raspberry Pi's C/C++ SDK or MicroPython is available; the software environment is set up via the Thonny IDE.
* To flash firmware: press BOOTSEL, connect via USB, release; the computer recognizes a removable disk (RPI-RP2) where you copy pico_micropython_20210121.uf2.
* After flashing, the board reboots and appears as a virtual serial port (COM on Windows, /dev/ttyACM0 on Raspberry Pi).
* In Thonny under Tools → Options → Interpreter select “MicroPython (Raspberry Pi Pico)” and choose the correct port (COM on Windows, /dev/ttyACM0 on Raspberry Pi).
* The onboard LED is controlled via GPIO25 using the machine.Pin API in MicroPython.
* Several sensor modules (flame, Hall, infrared proximity, liquid level, soil moisture, MQ5 gas, sound, UV) share one pin layout, enabling program reuse; the laser and tilt sensors likewise share a common pinout.
* The kit contains 13 sensor modules including temperature/humidity, gas, color, and flame sensors that can be wired to the Pico’s GPIO headers.

'''Commands and examples – verify before use:'''
<syntaxhighlight lang="text">
sudo apt upgrade thonny
from machine import Pin
led = Pin(25, Pin.OUT)
led.value(1)
led.value(0)
</syntaxhighlight>

== Notes and version constraints ==
* The exact pin assignments for the laser, color, rotation-encoder, and temperature/humidity sensors are only given as section headings without concrete pin mappings; physical verification at the module is required.
* The referenced firmware build (pico_micropython_20210121.uf2) is dated January 2021; newer MicroPython versions may have different APIs.
* Thonny must be at least version 3.3.3, since older versions lack Pico support.
* Compatibility of the kit with microcontrollers other than the Pico is not described in the source and should not be assumed.
