== Summary ==
The Stepper Motor HAT is a Raspberry Pi expansion board that drives two bipolar stepper motors via integrated DRV8825 drivers. It offers six microstep modes (full-step through 1/32-step), adjustable output current up to 2.5 A, and an onboard power supply capable of up to 3 A output current.

== Technical overview ==
* Compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero, Zero W, Zero WH, 2B, 3B, 3B+, 4B and 5.
* Two integrated DRV8825 driver ICs, each controlling one stepper motor.
* Microstep setting via DIP switches D0–D5: D0–D2 control motor M1, D3–D5 control motor M2; modes: full-step, half-step, 1/4-, 1/8-, 1/16- and 1/32-step.
* Driver input voltage range: 8.2 V to 28 V; the MP1584 regulator supports 4.5 V to 28 V input but delivers up to 3 A output.
* Output current per driver up to 2.5 A, adjustable via potentiometer; sense resistors R13/R16 at 0.2 Ω set the current using the formula Ichop = Vref/(5·R(ISENSE)).
* Motor connection uses XH2.54 4P connectors; pins A1/A2/B1/B2 belong to M1, A3/A4/B3/B4 to M2.
* nENBL must be held low to enable the H-bridge output; when high, the bridge is disabled and STEP is ignored.
* Board measures 65 mm × 56 mm, through-hole diameter 3.0 mm.
* For software microstepping, six resistors must be soldered on the back and all DIP switches set to 1; default is hardware setting via the DIP switches.
* The system operates in open-loop mode without position feedback; the drive follows only the pulse count from the microcontroller.

== Notes and version constraints ==
* Overloading above 2.5 A without additional cooling can damage the driver chip; it is recommended to respect the phase-current limit or add a fan.
* The exact mapping of DIP switch positions to individual microstep modes is incompletely reproduced in the source (the table “see datasheet page 13” is missing); verify the correct setting in the datasheet before use.
* The exact command strings for programming are not fully present in the source; only general hints such as 'softward' (Python) and SOFTWARD (C) are given.
* The current formula assumes a known potentiometer voltage; without measurement the actual output current cannot be determined reliably.
* The compatibility list refers to the listed Pi models; newer or other boards require separate verification.
